The texts that make up this book come from the pen of two renowned scholars of the same age who have left their mark on the study of Turkish history: Prof. Bernard Lewis and Prof. Halil Ä°nalcık, the winner of the Atatürk International Peace Prize in 1998. The main axis of this book is the phases through which Republican Turkey went through and on what kind of intellectual accumulation it was built. The difficult conditions of radical changes, the fact that the 'revolutions' constituted a breaking point on the road to modern civilization, and Turkey's orientation towards the West with a new Republican project are the points emphasized by both authors from different perspectives. The photographs that make up the visual part of the book are those taken by Etem Tem, Atatürk's personal photographer. These pictures are the most meaningful indicators of the messages that Atatürk wanted to convey to the Turkish nation in order to bring modernity to life.
